Sensitization Workshop – Tamale
August 13 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
Background
Text and image-based creators significantly contribute to fostering creative innovations and driving economic growth. However, such creators often do not receive fair compensation for their contributions. In recent years, CopyGhana has undertaken various initiatives, such as organising workshops to address this issue, by educating rights owners on how to protect their works and secure appropriate remuneration.
With funding support from IFRRO, this year’s sensitization efforts by CopyGhana will particularly focus on disseminating a WIPO funded survey conducted in 2023 to monitor digital uses of text and image-based works in various tertiary institutions in Ghana. The sensitization workshops will also focus mainly on visual arts creators, who have historically received less of CopyGhana’s attention compared to text-based creators. This document outlines the objectives, timelines, and anticipated outcomes of the proposed activities.
Objectives
- To educate rightsholders about the importance of collective management and its relevance to their creative sector.
- To equip rightsholders with practical strategies for promoting and enforcing their copyrights in the digital transformations era.
- To foster a culture of respect for intellectual property rights within the visual arts community.
Methodology/Approach
The event, will be a hybrid program with about 50 participants attending in-person and about 50 participants joining online for each session. It will feature presentations and interactive sessions designed to engage participants and facilitate learning.
The sensitization event will be held in 4 venues in Ghana: Accra, Kumasi, Tamale
